Events New Music Ensemble UT's acclaimed New Music Ensemble kicks off its 2005-2006 concert season on October 4th. The program features the music of Fred Lerdahl, visiting composer, as well as works by Joseph Eidson and Judd Greenstein. On November 1, the ensemble will perform George Rochberg's Chamber Symphony as well as the Quartet for Four Horns and tape by UT professor Russell Pinkston. Composers Joseph Turrin and Joan Tower will be featured composers in the spring semester. For more information, see the UTNME webpage.Film Music Symposium The UT Film Studies Group, an informal organization of faculty in departments across campus, is holding a conference on Authorship, Friday and Saturday, October 21-22, 2005. All the sessions will be held in the Texas Union, Santa Rita Room. Most of the presenters are faculty from Texas colleges and universities; a small number of out-of-states guests will also appear.Jerry Junkin and the UT Wind Ensemble The premiere wind ensemble in the country features American music on all its concerts. The UT Symphony Band On October 12, the Symphony Band will perform Fascinating Ribbons by Joan Tower along with Southern Harmony by our own Donald Grantham. And on November 30, Aaron Copland's An Outdoor Overture is paired (in a new arrangement by conductor Scott Hanna) with Dan Welcher's alluring Symphony no. 3, "Shaker Life."
